The day after my birthday last month I reminded myself that “today is the first day of the rest of my life.” Meaning I have the power and ability to make my life all it can be and work to fulfill all God has called me to do and be. Every year and day of our lives comes with lessons learned and my lesson has to do with success. What am I trying to succeed at? Who am I trying to succeed for? What am I wanting to ultimately get out of the experience? These are all questions I asked myself when I was (and still am) trying to measure how I view success in my life. Then I came across this quote, “Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out.” My example to prove that to be true is going to school. I have met many people, myself included, who enjoy school and value school but never have I met someone who absolutely loves school and looks forward to going. Especially college. The money and time commitment that college students face is most often overwhelming. What I now know is that college is the act of going day by day and a few classes at a time. And in the end the reward and sigh of satisfaction will be so nice.
Guys, I am truly speaking from experience. I am in the middle of week six of a sixteen week semester in my second year of college and my brain is absolutely fried from Biology, Algebra, and two English classes. I have dropped classes and rearranged my schedule countless times because I felt so overwhelmed and slightly in over my head. I came to a point just a few days ago asking myself if all this is even worth it. I know that is slightly dramatic, but I have a point. I don’t know exactly what career field I want to venture into yet, but I do know in order to get there, school is a must. As many times as I can try to convince myself otherwise, it is the truth. The process of going to school and getting some sort of degree is just one of the many “small efforts” that it takes to succeed. Success isn’t easy, that’s why it is synonymous with triumph. It is to rise above and come out stronger than you were. If and when you get discouraged, remember you don’t have to be perfect. No one is perfect. Isn’t that such a relief? Even the most successful people is all aspects of life have failed and fallen many times. Remember, that small effort you repeatedly face, is going to lead to huge success and triumph.
